Military and Family
Learn More About Brandon
How did the military impact your family’s bond?
Brandon - Joining the Marine Corps definitely made the bond that I have with my family stronger. Every time we get together we cherish the times more because we don’t know when we will see each other again
Do you think about becoming a parent?
Brandon - Yes, I do think about this often but I know that I am young so I would like to take things one step at a time.
Do you or any of your squad members think about the benefits and allowances available for military parents and children?
Brandon - Yes, its not something that we take for granted. We are always thankful of the benefits that are provided to us no matter how little.
Do you know of any benefits for accessing child care, education, health care, and housing options for children?
Brandon - I don't know the whole gist of the child care portion since I am not a parent but I do know that the military does give extra pay to members who have children and they also have on base housing for members who are married, health care is free and I know a few marines who have gotten surgery and not had to pay anything. Also Military members do get what is called B.A.H and that gives members who are married a little extra money.
Do you have any plans to create or update a family care plan?
Brandon - As of right now I don’t have a wife let alone a kid but if I end up having one while I’m in the Marines, my mind will most likely change.
Do you think about the bond you want to have with your children?
Brandon - Yes. I would like my children to feel as if they could call me at whatever time to talk about anything knowing I am willing to help them.
Do you discuss balancing your military duties and obligations with parental responsibilities and desires?
Brandon - I don’t have kids but I know people who do in my unit and they are able to balance their parental duties however sometimes it is difficult because some military members might have to deploy for a certain amount of time and it can be stressful and hard for everyone involved in the family.
Do you think about the decisions needed to be made when and how to become a parent?
Brandon - Yes I am always wondering whether or not I could support a family. My big concerning being financial stability and maturity. I just don't think I am quite ready for that yet given where I am at currently, but I would love to have a child of my own.
