The Original Jungle Boot

Prior to the Vietnam War, the U.S. Army had experience with jungle warfare, notably during World War II in the Pacific and in Korea. The U.S. military learned from these conflicts that leather combat boots weren’t suited for tropical climates, as they caused issues like trench foot.

   The first real attempt at a jungle boot design came during World War II, when U.S. troops in the Pacific were issued canvas-and-rubber boots known as "M-1942 Jungle Boots."

These boots featured canvas uppers for breathability and drainage eyelets to allow water to escape. The sole was designed to provide better traction in wet conditions.

Key Features Introduced

Drainage ports: Positioned on the inner sides of the boots, allowing water to flow out, keeping feet drier.

Panama sole: A revolutionary design with wide, deep grooves that allowed mud and debris to be easily shed.

Steel shank: A metal plate in the sole to protect the foot from punji sticks and other traps.

Canvas/Nylon upper: This breathable material allowed airflow preventing overheating in hot, humid conditions.
